Well, fall break has come and gone. I had James back for one little week and now it's over.  I can't wait until this semester is over so we'll get a whole month and a half together. We did a lot this week though. We went to the Renaissance festival so that I could watch the joust and talk about how I could do it better.  It was fun to do that together. By far my best trip there.
We also did a lot with Jazzmine. We ponied her on the trail with Fiddler and Gypsy (see my webshots album for pictures) and we worked on longing. She did it great with him leading her along, but once he let go she'd only do about 2 circles before she tried to trot for home. But she'll do better once we have the roundpen back.
I've bought her some splint/skid boots for longing to keep her from hurting her legs, but as far as I know she's never been booted so this outta be fun. Anyway, back to James. I miss him bunches and I wish we could have had more time together. But the semester's halfway over so hopefully it will go by quickly. Anyway, gotta go to class. Later!

Things Jazzmine has learned so far:
1. To stand while being curried and brushed, mane and tail included, with or without a lead, in or out of stall.
2. Stand to be washed and have her wounds treated without trying to kick.
3. Let me approach her in the pasture.
4. Parallel lead.
5. If I am leading her and I have to leave her to go do something else (in this case shove another stupid horse back into the parking lot) she waits for me to come finish leading her.
How smart is that? Can't wait to start training for real, soon as her leg heals. |

Jazzmine has settled in at Latta nicely. I just put her out with the herd for the first time today and she did great. She's so happy to have some room to run and get out all her baby energy. I've put up a picture of her on my xanga page that's from her little stay in the pasture. I really miss James, but we're gonna be alright because in the span of our relationship is going to be so much bigger than this one year... Well I'm done writing cause I'm tired. I spend all my time either at Latta or at school so I want to lay down and snuggle in my bed. Night! |

| Well, Jazzmine's owner decided that she wants to sell her to me, so Jazzmine will be joining the Latta family next friday. I will try and document our training escapades as much as possible. Pictures will become harder once James goes back to school, but I'm sure I'll figure it out. We're going to start with grooming lessons. I'll teach her to stand and be brushed, pick up her back feet for me, and hopefully be hosed off. And if it doesn't totally terrify her, we're going to buzz off that awful hack job of a mane she has. She'll have a mohawk for a little while but at least it will grow back nice and even. Exciting week, going to the beach, then getting a horse. Anyway, wish me luck so that I don't totally screw her up in training. More later. |

| It looks like I'm buying a horse! Well, her owner still has to make the final decision and she's seeing someone else tomorrow, but she told us out of all the people so far, she liked us the best. Jazzmine still has to get shots first too, but I told her if she decides to sell her to me, I'll buy her. So we'll see. I can't wait to get her! ok, more later. |
